Intro

My system uses a Fedora 27 distro upon initiating this blog, but this may change because the OS is constantly updating. I am using a KDE desktop environment instead of GNOME. I choose to use this system configuration because it is free and open-source and easily configured with some the programs that I use. I am using a 64-bit version of the Fedora OS. You may own a 32-bit system. This parameter is important because a 64-bit program will not work on a 32-bit system, so you must download the correct version of the programs from the download sites of the hosted website of the developers of the programs. This blog is tailored for my type of system, but many of programs mentioned will have a cross-platform program to install on a different OS.
 

Preface



I have decided to initiate a general blog on my progress with installing Linux programs for bioinformatics. I have decided to do this for a many reasons, of which I will only make a small list. First, I can not find many guides concerning this matter; therefore, I have decided to contribute to this area that seems to require more discussion. Second (which is not mutually exclusive from the first reason listed above), there are a number of resources available for bioinformatics, but little novice discussion on using or installing the software. Third, I have the intention of to updating this blog because the development of new tools happens so quickly that a published manuscript becomes quickly outdated by time of publication.
